These resolutions were made subsequent to the acceptance of a motion addressing a matter of urgent public importance, presented by Representative Jesse Okey-Joe from Lagos, representing the LP party.
Representative Okey-Joe highlighted a recent incident involving law enforcement officers and LATSMA officials. He recounted that during this incident, school children, a pregnant woman, and a tricycle driver tragically lost their lives. He explained that the officials were pursuing a vehicle and attempting to control its movement by physically interacting with the steering, resulting in the driver losing control and colliding with the tricycle. This collision resulted in the tragic deaths of the woman and tricycle driver, with two children sustaining injuries.
Furthermore, Representative Okey-Joe expressed concerns about the escalating violence and confrontations involving the police and LASMA officers in Oshodi-Isolo. He emphasized that these situations not only endangered the lives of the residents but also jeopardized their means of livelihood. In his words, “Our communities have turned into battle zones, and our children, who should be safe on their way to school, have become victims of this ongoing turmoil.”
In alignment with the motion, the House called upon the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide relief and assistance to the victims of the violence occurring within the Oshodi-Isolo II Federal Constituency.
