No fewer than three corps members have absconded, one other got an extension as another one was said to have died during the service year of 2022 Batch A Stream I in Gombe State, Punch Metro reports.

Disclosing this on Thursday during the passing out ceremony of 779 corps members in the state, the National Youth Service Corps Coordinator, Ada Imoni, who monitored the occasion across the 11 Local Government Areas said the one whose service was extended was made to face a disciplinary committee.

“Out of the 779 corps members, one was deceased, one got an extension of service after facing the Corps Disciplinary Committee and three absconded from service,” she said.

Addressing some exiting corps members at the NYSC zonal office, Bolari, Imoni appealed to them to uphold the ideals of the scheme by preaching the gospel of love, peace, respect for one another and national unity and integration as they commence the next phase of their lives.

According to Imoni, with the skills acquired in the course of the service year through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme, they have been duly equipped to start businesses, no matter how little, to stem the tide of post-service unemployment.

Imoni said, “The skills acquired in the course of the service year will be more useful to you now that the service year is over. Do not despise your days of little beginnings.”

Speaking on the general elections, Imoni, implored them to be non-partisan and shun every form of corrupt practices so as not to drag the good name of the NYSC and their families in the mud.

“We must deliver free, fair and credible elections. As ex-corps members, you are still members of this noble family. Do your best to make us proud,” she added.

Imoni also went around distribution points at the various local government areas to observe the issuance of Certificates of National Service to Corps members.

It was gathered that the highlight of the event was the art exhibition by Joshua Steve, Isaac Usoro and Dauda Olamilekan Yusuf.

The artwork, according to Yusuf, was to address the ills in society, racism, national unity and integration and equal right for girl children, among other things.
