The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Enema Paul, has stepped down from his role, citing deteriorating health as the primary reason. During a plenary session on Thursday, he submitted his resignation letter, acknowledging Governor Yahaya Bello’s support and expressing gratitude to the Assembly for their prayers and assistance,leadership reports.

Rt. Hon. Paul disclosed that health challenges arose in 2021, prompting him to seek medical treatment and undergo surgery abroad with Governor Bello’s approval. Despite efforts, his health did not improve, and he continued to feel increasingly debilitated. Faced with the persistent illness, he decided to prioritize his well-being and concentrate on recovery.

Consequently, seeking permission from the Assembly to extend his medical leave abroad for a year, Rt. Hon. Paul submitted his resignation letter, which was subsequently approved.

Upon Paul’s resignation, the House Clerk, Mr. Chogudo Sule Ahmed, initiated the process of selecting a new Deputy Speaker. Hon. Abu Jibrin, representing the Ajaokuta constituency, nominated Hon. Ojoma Comfort Nwuchiola from Ibaji constituency, seconded by Hon. Seyi Bello from Kabba/Bunu.

Following the nominations, Hon. Nwuchiola was sworn in as the new Deputy Speaker by the House Clerk.
