On Tuesday, Islamic clerics from the three major sects in Kano State came together in the commercial city to extend special prayers for the anticipated success of Nasiru Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, at the Supreme Court, leadership reports.

The clerics also invoked prayers for the Justices of the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Abuja Division of the Appeal Court, urging a fair dispensation of justice regarding the petition filed by the state chapter of the APC concerning the governorship dispute.

Recalling that both the Tribunal and the appellate court had previously affirmed Gawuna of the APC as the victor in the Kano State governorship election held on March 18, 2023, the group of Ulamas, including Tijjaniyya, Izala, and Kadiriyya, fervently prayed for the protection and guidance of the Tribunal and Appeal Court Justices. They commended the courts for restoring what they deemed the rightful mandate of the people of Kano State to Gawuna, asserting him as the legitimate winner.

Led by Sheikh Albakry Mikail of the Tijjaniyya, Malam Garba Yusuf Abubakar of the Izala sect, and Professor Maibushira of the Kadiriyya sect, the Ulamas appealed to the Supreme Court to thoroughly examine the presented facts and affirm Gawuna as the legitimate victor of the Kano governorship seat.

Mallam Abubakar emphasized the necessity of these prayers in ensuring that justice prevailed over emotional sentiments among the supporters of NNPP in Kano. He stated, “We are gathered here to offer special prayers for both the justices of the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. We are equally calling on the Justices of the Supreme Court to look carefully at the facts before them and do justice to the people of Kano State so that their stolen mandate can be recovered.”
