The agency in a memo dated October 15, 2022, warned Nigerians to be wary of the counterfeit drug — Augmentin 625mg Tabs which were supplied to medicine vendors in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The “forged” antibiotic drug does not meet the drug labelling requirements, according to NAFDAC.

“No inscription ‘manufactured by’ written on the label — only the address. Manufacturing and Expiry dates don’t meet the acceptable format. No MAS scratch number for verification,” it stated.  “The logo “gsk” is not properly positioned as on the original. The above information makes the drug suspected as counterfeit.”

NAFDAC was established in October 1992 to regulate and control the manufacturing, importation, exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, packaged water, chemicals and detergents.
