A devastating fire has ravaged approximately 40 shops at Zawaciki market and nearly 1000 housing units in Kumbotso Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State,Daily Trust reports.

According to witness Ahmad Nasir Wali, the fire ignited during the early hours of Wednesday and required several hours for the state fire service to contain.

The inferno consumed provisions, cement, wood, POS stores, and other valuable properties and goods worth millions of naira.

Residents reported that firefighters from a private company, Mamuda Group, were the initial responders who assisted in controlling the blaze.

Confirming the incident, Alhaji Saminu Yusuf, the spokesman for the state fire service, stated that they received a distress call from Malam Muhammad Baba, a local resident, around 12:37 am. The fire service promptly directed their Sharada and Audu Bako centers to respond, with additional support dispatched from headquarters.

Aminu Isa, one of the victims, recounted his devastating experience upon arriving at the scene at 1 am, after being informed of the destruction of his shop. He lamented the loss of all his belongings to the fire.
