President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s lawyer, Wole Afolabi, has attributed the “F” designation on President Tinubu’s certificate to a mix-up at Chicago State University. Afolabi made this clarification during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today,Daily Trust reports.

The People’s Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in the February 25 election, Atiku Abubakar, who is contesting President Tinubu’s victory, had initiated legal proceedings at the District Court, Northern Illinois, in the United States, resulting in a recent order for Chicago State University to release President Tinubu’s academic records.

When asked to explain why the President’s certificate indicated “F,” Afolabi stated, “The transcript provided by Southwest College indicated ‘F.’ It was evident. All other details matched President Bola Tinubu’s information. However, the registrar revealed during an interview that the individual who applied to the school had checked the box for male, not female. Consequently, the admission letter was issued to Mr. Tinubu.”

Afolabi also mentioned that discrepancies in signatures on the certificate were due to certificates not being issued at the time of graduation but upon application. He further noted that the person who issued the certificate submitted to INEC might not have been associated with the university in 1979.

Responding to these explanations, former spokesperson for Atiku, Segun Sowunmi, expressed doubts regarding President Tinubu’s attendance at Chicago State University. He emphasized the presence of a security number on the certificate linked to a female name and questioned the authenticity of President Tinubu’s claim of attending the school.
