The Jigawa State Executive Council has given the green light to disburse a grant of N250 million for the acquisition of Ready to Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) aimed at combatting severe child malnutrition. Mr. Saidu Umar, the Chief Nutrition Officer in the state, revealed this development to the press in Dutse over the weekend,leadership report.

Mr. Saidu explained that UNICEF had also sanctioned an equivalent grant, making the total funds available for procurement reach N500 million. As part of their agreement, UNICEF will oversee and facilitate the procurement process, in addition to aiding in its management and distribution across various centers dedicated to addressing acute malnutrition.

He further elaborated that approximately 10,000 children afflicted with severe malnutrition in the state would benefit from this generous initiative. In addition to the RUTF, the state is actively supporting various programs aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition to combat the alarming prevalence of child malnutrition and stunting.
