The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian military to enhance security measures in order to protect communities in Borno and Yobe from terrorist attacks. This request came as a result of separate motions presented by Lawan Shettima Ali (APC, Yobe) and Ahmed Satomi (APC, Borno) during the plenary on Tuesday,Daily Trust report.

In his motion, Lawan Shettima Ali reported that a group of terrorists, riding on approximately 15 motorcycles and armed with advanced weapons, carried out an attack in Nguro Kayaiya. They killed 16 males on the outskirts of the village and proceeded to set houses, vehicles, and tricycles on fire.

This incident occurred in the community situated in Kusur Damakarwa Ward, between Gumsa and Kusur towns of Geidam LGA, Yobe State, on October 30 and 31, 2023. Additionally, several other villages, including Nguro Kayaiya, Jororo in Geidam LGA, and Garin Bulama Garaiye in Yunusari LGA, were also targeted and burned down.

Ahmed Satomi, on the other hand, reported that heavily armed Boko Haram terrorists attacked Zabarmari farmers while they were working in their rice fields in the villages of Koshebe, Karkut, and Bulabulin in the Jere Mafa Local Government Area. This attack resulted in the loss of several lives and took place on November 4, 2023. Notably, these communities are located less than 20 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
