On Thursday, soldiers arrived at the mini-palace of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, who was dethroned by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf,Daily Trust reports.

Governor Yusuf, while signing the repealed Kano Emirates Council Law, gave the dismissed Emirs 48 hours to vacate their palaces and hand over control.

According to Daily Trust, while other Emirs—Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero (Bichi), Alhaji Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa (Rano), Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II (Karaye), and Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir (Gaya)—complied with the directive, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero (Kano) returned to the ancient city on Saturday.

The aircraft carrying Ado Bayero landed at Aminu Kano International Airport at 4:30 AM, where he was immediately greeted by supporters chanting verses from Surah Al-Fatihah in the Holy Quran: “You (alone) we worship, and you (alone) we ask for help (for each and everything).” Others were heard saying, “God the Almighty will kill your enemies.”

After observing the Subhi (dawn prayer) at the airport, Ado Bayero proceeded to the mini-palace in Nassarawa.

Governor Yusuf responded by ordering Ado Bayero’s immediate arrest, accusing him of creating tension in the state. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf claimed Ado Bayero was smuggled into Kano in an attempt to forcefully return to the palace two days after being deposed.

A Daily Trust correspondent reported that soldiers were deployed to the mini-palace in Nassarawa following the governor’s order. Although security operatives had escorted Ado Bayero from the airport to the mini-palace, the reason for additional troops being deployed remains unclear.

Kano’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, accused National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu of facilitating Ado Bayero’s return. In a video interview at Emir’s palace in Gidan Rumfa, where Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi is currently in residence, Gwarzo alleged that the NSA provided two jets to bring Ado Bayero back to Kano.

He stated, “The National Security Adviser gave two jets to bring the dethroned Emir to Kano and to bring him to the palace. We don’t understand their intention.”
