Allegedly, a group of suspected armed robbers is said to have sexually assaulted four female students at Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State,Daily Trust report.

Reports indicate that these criminals entered the hostels located in the Abapawa area, just off the campus, during the early hours of Tuesday and committed this horrific act.

In response to the incident, the Deputy Governor of the State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, along with the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, and the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, promptly rushed to the university. They also visited the victims before they were transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital in Sagamu.

Salako-Oyedele confirmed the occurrence through a post on her verified Facebook page and characterized it as “disturbing and brutal.” She stated, “Earlier today (Tuesday), after receiving the distressing news about armed robbery at some TASUED hostels and the brutal rape of four female students, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun CON directed me to immediately visit the victims and the campus for a fact-finding mission and to assure the Government’s commitment to preventing such incidents from happening again.”

She continued, “I have visited the affected girls, who are currently receiving care and the necessary support to recover from their traumatic experience at the Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) at OSUTH.”

The deputy governor emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of students. She also revealed that she held a crucial meeting with the management and students of TASUED, accompanied by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Alamutu, and the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu. In this meeting, they discussed concrete measures to enhance security on the campus and in the adjacent host community.

Quoting the Commissioner of Police, Salako-Oyedele stated that he pledged to relentlessly pursue the perpetrators of this crime. “The Ogun State Government is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all its citizens and maintaining our institutions as secure environments for learning and personal growth,” she affirmed.

She concluded by calling on everyone to unite against such heinous acts and collaborate to protect the dignity and safety of all citizens.
