The High Court of Rivers State in Port Harcourt has directed Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubari, to preside over the affairs of the state’s legislative arm until the resolution of a pending motion,Daily Trust reports.

Justice M.W Danagogo issued this order on Tuesday through an experte motion, suit no. PHC/3030/CS/2023, with the Rivers State House of Assembly as the first claimant, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie (Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly) as the second claimant, and Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule and Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol as the first and second defendants, respectively.

In the motion prepared by D.I Iboroma (SAN) and others, Edison seeks a court directive compelling Amaewhule and others to refrain from accessing the state House of Assembly complex until the fire-damaged chamber is fully restored by the government.

Edison also requests the court to mandate him to lawfully assume the speakership of the state assembly until the resolution of the ongoing matter, urging that Amaewhule be restrained from acting as the Speaker of the House.
