Muhammad Abubakar, the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Sultan of Sokoto, has urged Muslims across Nigeria to be vigilant for the sighting of the crescent moon of Sha’aban 1445AH after sunset on Saturday, 29th Rajab, 1445AH (February 10, 2024), signaling the imminent arrival of this year’s Ramadan fasting period,leadership reports.

This call was conveyed through a statement issued by Professor Salisu Shehu, the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA.

According to the statement, “Scientifically, the anticipated time for the conjunction of the moon is on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:59 pm. It is worth noting that the moon becomes visible and can be observed typically sometime after the conjunction has occurred, despite various environmental factors.”

Sha’aban, being the eighth month in the lunar calendar, signifies that Ramadan (the ninth lunar month) is anticipated to commence in early March.
