The Katsina State Police Command reported the thwarting of a kidnapping attempt on the Dutsinma-Kankara highway, resulting in the killing of three suspects. ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Katsina on Sunday,leadership reports.
According to Sadiq-Aliyu, on December 10, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the police received credible information about suspected armed robbers and kidnappers, armed with dangerous weapons, including AK-47 rifles, blocking the Dutsinma-Kankara highway with the intention of kidnapping unsuspecting members of the public.
Upon receiving the report, the Area Commander in Dutsinma promptly mobilized a joint team of police operatives and vigilante members, responding to the scene. The suspected kidnappers opened fire on the operatives upon their arrival, and the officers, in a valiant exchange, neutralized three members of the gang.

During the operation, Masa’udu Sani, a vigilante member, sustained a gunshot wound on his right hand but is currently responding to treatment. Efforts are underway to apprehend other fleeing suspects as the investigation progresses.
Sadiq-Aliyu stated that Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar-Musa commended the professionalism, synergy, and bravery of the operatives, urging them to sustain the momentum. The commissioner also encouraged citizens to provide crucial and timely information on criminal activities, emphasizing the importance of reporting individuals with suspicious injuries, as some bandits may have escaped with gunshot wounds.
