Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan, the Senator representing Kogi Central, expressed her surprise at winning the Court of Appeal’s decision,Daily Trust report.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja declared Akpoti-Uduagan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, as the legitimately elected senator in the senatorial election held in February 2023, overturning the state’s Election Petitions Tribunal’s earlier ruling that had invalidated the victory of Abubakar Ohere from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared Natasha as the winner.
She stated during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, “Until I was officially declared the winner, I wasn’t entirely confident because in Nigeria, anything can happen. I wish you hadn’t played the governor’s message. This isn’t politics. You shouldn’t endanger lives, incite violence, or disrupt the electoral process just to secure a candidate’s victory and call it the beauty of democracy.”
The senator emphasized her commitment to providing excellent representation for her constituents and showcasing the intelligence and capability of women in politics. She added, “Our people desire effective representation, and they voted for it. I am determined to demonstrate to Nigerians that women are highly capable.”
