Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has pinpointed resistance to change among the populace as one of his major hurdles. He conveyed this during a meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) held at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital,Daily Trust reports.

Referencing social psychologist Douglas McGregor’s Theory, the governor noted widespread reluctance to embrace responsibility and change within the state. He shared that his extensive experience working for various international and national corporations inspired him to seek public office, aiming to contribute to societal welfare.

Sule underscored his efforts to introduce due process, transparency, and efficiency, drawing from the structured approaches of his corporate background. He highlighted the implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the establishment of the Bureau for Public Procurement to ensure fiscal transparency and adherence to regulations.

However, the governor expressed frustration with the resistance encountered in altering established practices. He emphasized the challenge of introducing novel concepts into governance, particularly as an outsider to the governmental sphere.

Governor Sule also addressed the issue of limited resources, noting Nasarawa State’s low ranking in federal allocation. Despite this constraint, he emphasized his reluctance to incur high-interest debts for non-revenue-generating ventures, citing his commitment to fiscal prudence.

Amid various challenges, Sule credited inclusive governance and divine guidance for maintaining relative peace in Nasarawa State. He outlined his vision to position the state among the top three most competitive in the country.

Offering advice to aspiring politicians, the governor cautioned against viewing politics solely as a means of enrichment. Instead, he encouraged a focus on service and skill application, acknowledging the inevitability of discontent in politics but advocating for actions aligned with personal integrity and conscience.
