Dele Momodu, the director of strategic communications of the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign, has described Festus Keyamo as a “political neophyte” who “still has a lot to learn while trying hard to be a lapdog.”

According to The Guardian, Momodu used the aforementioned words while responding to a statement issued by Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, in response to an earlier statement by Momodu in which the PDP official lambasted the recently released ‘action plan’ of the All Progressives Congress and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

The ‘action plan’ tagged “Renewed Hope” and described as more than a manifesto by the APC, highlighted various sectors of the economy that are challenged and offered solutions to them.

Since the document was made public, it has attracted several reactions. While some commended it, others condemned the APC”s action plan.

Momodu has been one of the fiercest critics of the action plan, even describing it as a plagiarised version of the 1993 manifesto of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of that year’s presidential election.

But the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, where Keyamo serves as a spokesperson, was quick to dismiss Momodu’s critique, describing it as nothing but a huge joke and show of unseriousness of the leading opposition party.

Keyamo said it was pathetic to read Momodu’s questioning of the “worth and capacity” of Tinubu, whom he had praised in the past. He also described Momodu as “a hireling,” adding that rather than “engaging the ruling party constructively on its programmes and policies, it was saddening that a document that should spur the opposition party to act right is now a subject of ridicule.”

In addition, Keyamo said Momodu, the publisher of the tabloid magazine, Ovation, should have stayed in his “accustomed lane of praise-singing socialites and the likes instead of dabbling in the more demanding job of critiquing policy statements.”

He also said Momodu “goofed” by describing the APC’s action plan as a plagiarised version of Abiola’s ‘Hope 93’ manifesto.

But Momodu, in a news release titled ‘Festus Keyamo and his erratic vituperation,’ and issued by his office on Tuesday, said he wasn’t “surprised” at the outburst by Keyamo, whom he said has “since become a shadow of his old self since he was offered an appointment that makes him look so incompetent by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

He also expressed his undying love for “Tinubu the man” but was quick to add that he “disagrees vehemently with Tinubu the Politician” who, in Momodu’s opinion, “has declined in the last few years” which is why he, Momodu, decided to pitch his tents with Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, whom he described as one who is “not a pretender to the throne” and “has pursued his dreams with grace, good comportment, self-discipline and uncommon equanimity.”
