The National Judicial Council (NJC) has initiated an investigation into the issues surrounding the certified true copy (CTC) of the Kano State governorship election appeal at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. This announcement was made by NJC officials during a visit to the Media Trust Ltd headquarters in Abuja yesterday,Daily Trust reports.

The CTC of the November 17 judgment from the appellate court, which overturned Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Yusuf Gawuna, has caused confusion and widespread condemnation. The basis for the ruling was Yusuf’s alleged non-membership in the party.

Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Mohammed Bangari, acknowledged clerical errors in the document on Wednesday, November 17, but maintained the validity of the court’s judgment.

In a conversation with Daily Trust, the leader of the NJC delegation revealed that they have received petitions and assured that the council would handle them in accordance with established procedures.

“The petitions will not be immediately addressed; they will undergo preliminary complaint assessment. After that, the matter will be reviewed by the plenary, which will then establish a committee to investigate. Both the judge and the petitioner, along with their lawyers, will be involved in the process,” he explained. The senior official emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s decision to incorporate the CTC into the Supreme Court appeal would not hinder the NJC’s investigation.
