Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), on Friday, foiled an attempt by two women to sell a two-month-old baby.

The deal was uncovered in Oshodi, Lagos, when one Oge Okolie, aged 25, the intermediary between the baby’s mother and the prospective buyer was “suspected of stealing the baby.”

The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that passengers on a public bus noticed a ceaseless crying baby with Okolie, and questioned why she could not breast-feed the child, if she was the baby’s biological mother.

The suspect was about to be lynched when RRS operatives quickly stepped in to rescue her, as well as the baby.

Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the mother, a 26-year-old Maria Ahmadu.

Commander, RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, has since transferred the suspects and baby to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation and prosecution.
