Terrorists, Saturday night, killed two passengers and abducted three others at Magama Jibia Community, in Jibia Council of Katsina State. The incident, according to sources, occurred at about 9.15 p.m. along Katsina-Jibia road.

It was gathered that the terrorists had ordered commercial vehicles to stop around the area, obviously, to rob and abduct passengers. Shortly into the operation, a group of security operatives rushed to the scene to rescue victims, but the terrorists were said to have opened fire at them.

In the process, it was learnt that two of the passengers were shot dead by the terrorists, while unspecified number of others sustained injuries. One of the victims, who lost his life, was said to be the driver of one of the commercial vehicles.

However, the terrorists were able to escape from the scene with three of the passengers, obviously into a nearby forest, where they use as hideout. Terrorists activities have been reported in recent times around Magama Jibia Community, and the stretch of more than 40 kilometer road, which links Jibia with the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Katsina State Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the incident, yesterday.

THE people of Maijaki Community, in Birnin Maza/Tashibo ward of Lapai Council of Niger State, have raised the alarm, following incessant attacks and abduction of residents by armed bandits, who had laid siege on their communities, and appealed for urgent security presence to forestall further attacks.

A source from the community, who does not want his name in print, revealed that bandits were currently occupying kpashimi forest with sophisticated weapons such as AK 47 riffles, where they used as hideout to launch attacks on innocent people.

The source also disclosed that last Friday, October 21, 2022, at about 1:00 a.m., suspected bandits stormed the community, shooting sporadically and kidnapped 13 persons.

IN a related development, unconfirmed reports from the council also revealed that over 500 security operatives of Operation Sharan Daji of the Nigerian Army, including vigilantes, have stormed the area to apprehend the bandits.

At press time, no official statement from the state government or security agents concerning the recent attack was available.
