Gunmen carried out a deadly attack on Tuesday in Fanzo community, Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State, resulting in the death of a herdsman and the loss of 50 cattle and sheep,Daily Trust reports.

Alhaji Dan-Azumi, who suffered the loss of 21 cattle in the incident, confirmed to Daily Trust on Wednesday that another herdsman was injured during the herding activity in the area.

He recounted, “The gunmen abruptly invaded the area, opening fire indiscriminately. They fatally shot one of the herdsmen and wounded another. Additionally, they made off with over 50 cattle, some of which succumbed to injuries sustained from the gunfire. This was an unprovoked assault.”

Dan-Azumi further mentioned that the Sector Four Commander had convened a meeting with them, urging them to refrain from retaliatory actions and assuring them of a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are law-abiding citizens, urging the security apparatus in the area to conduct a comprehensive inquiry and bring the culprits to justice. We also implore them to recover our stolen livestock,” he added.

Garba Abdullahi, the state chairman of Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), also corroborated the incident, urging security agencies to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators to deter future occurrences.

Despite attempts to reach out, the spokesperson of Operation Safe Haven, a security task force responsible for maintaining peace in the state, Major Samson Zhakom, did not respond to requests for comment as of the time of compiling this report.
