The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted 15 trucks transporting food items in Sokoto State to combat smuggling, which has worsened the country’s high cost of living,Daily Trust reports.

According to Mr. Abubakar Chafe, spokesperson for the NCS Sokoto Command, the vehicles were apprehended along the Gwadabawa-Illela road. Chafe stated that the large quantity of farm produce on the trucks prompted the interceptions.

The trucks are currently under the custody of the command, and an investigation has been launched to identify the owners and intended destinations of the food items.

The operation was conducted jointly by the NCS Sokoto Command, Federal Operation Unit officers, and the Service’s Intelligence Unit. Chafe emphasized the necessity of the operation due to the ongoing inflation of food items across the country.
