The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GOHEALTH) is preparing to include local government employees in its health insurance program, leadership reports.
Initially, the program primarily catered to state government employees, who contributed a nominal sum from their salaries to access affordable healthcare services at their preferred hospitals. However, recognizing the need to expand this benefit to a wider population within the state, the agency has unveiled plans to enroll local government staff in the initiative.
In readiness for the launch of the program at the local government level, a delegation from GOHEALTH, led by Dr. Abubakar Musa, the executive secretary of the agency, visited the Ministry for Local Government and Community Development last Friday.
During this meeting, Dr. Musa highlighted the agency’s ongoing efforts to include local government workers in the healthcare scheme, attributing this expansion to the unwavering commitment of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who aims to ensure that citizens can access quality healthcare services without facing financial hardships.
In response to this proposal, the Commissioner of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulkadir Muhammed Waziri, expressed his wholehearted support for the initiative. He acknowledged the significance of including local government employees in the scheme and assured the ministry’s full backing.
