No fewer than 14 passengers were burnt to death along Gaya-Wudil Road in Kano State following an accident involving a Toyota Hummer bus and a Hyundai sport utility vehicle, Punch reports.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Kano State, Zubairu Mato, who confirmed the deaths on Tuesday, said the accident occurred at Rege village, by Antukuwani.

Mato explained that the bus, with number plate, GML 102 TA, belonging to Kano Line, was coming from Gombe State when it collided with the SUV around 7.30pm on Sunday.

He said, “Thirteen passengers were burnt to death on the spot with six others injured in the accident.” It was gathered that one of the rescued female passengers died on Monday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

The FRSC Commander attributed the accident to speeding and dangerous overtaking.
