Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHDA), says it will commence a statewide measles campaign targeting no fewer than one million children under five years in 20 Local Government Area Councils of Bauchi state.

Ridadu Mohammed, the State Health Educator in the agency, on monday, stated that the exercise would begin on October 20, adding that the campaign will last for seven days.

Mohammed said 1,752 teams would be deployed for the exercise to man both fixed and temporary posts.

According to him, the measles campaign will target ages nine to 59 months.

He also said that Men-Afri would be administered to children from 10 to 11 years and COVID-19 vaccination would be part of the campaign.

“Birth registration will be integrated; COVID-19 first and booster doses files would be available for eligible persons,’’ he said.

He called on parents to avail their children of the mass exercise.

Eighteen cases of measles had been reported in Dambam Local government Area.

This was disclosed by Sani Malami, the State Commissioner for Health, who comfirmed the development to newsmen on Thursday.

Malami further disclosed that 14,000 dosages of vaccine had been allocated to the areas while re-vaccination against the disease would be carried out in the areas, adding that enough vaccines had been stored in Dambam Healthcare facility in case of further outbreak.
