The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Abia State command successfully raided a local refinery site in Obiakpu, Obuzo-Asa, Ukwa West Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of four suspected operators and the confiscation of seven vehicles,leadership report.

After guiding reporters through the site, the commandant, Usman Alfadarai, announced that the accomplishment resulted from a 48-hour continuous surveillance operation conducted by his personnel in and around the area. He reiterated the commitment of the command to eradicate vandalism of public infrastructure, illicit trade in petroleum products, and other forms of economic sabotage in the state.

Describing the refinery site as an “axis of illegality and economic sabotage,” Alfadarai assured that such operations would no longer be tolerated under his leadership. Despite assuming office just a week ago, he emphasized the resolve to confront economic saboteurs directly.

The commandant disclosed that the suspects, aged between 17 and 28, would face prosecution once investigations are concluded. He emphasized that the operation aligned with the directive of the corps’ commandant-general, Ahmed Audi, who is determined to fulfill the corps’ mandate.

Alfadarai urged the public to collaborate by providing useful information about suspected criminals, ensuring confidentiality in handling such information. He also sought the cooperation of traditional rulers in educating their subjects about the risks associated with tampering with petroleum product lines, emphasizing the severe consequences involved.
