Calm is gradually returning to the city of Kano following the tensions surrounding the throne of the Emir of Kano as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II enters the sixth day of his reinstatement,Daily Trust reports.
Despite the Sunusi camp’s assertion that he is the rightful Emir, reappointed by Governor Abba Yusuf, a Federal High Court in Kano issued an order halting his reinstatement until a suit challenging it is resolved.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more District Heads and members of the Tijjaniyya Shura Council, an Islamic sect council, have declared their loyalty to him.
Prominent figures such as Khalifa Sayyadi Bashir, Khalifa Abdullahi Uwaisu, Sheikh Ibrahim Shehu Maihula, and Barrister Habibu Dan Almajiri have also endorsed Sunusi, whose claim to the throne faces a legal challenge.

During his initial court session on Sunday, Emir Sunusi, deemed illegitimate by the Emir Aminu Ado Bayaro camp, received the allegiance of 40 District Heads and notable individuals within the council.
NAN observed on Thursday that many Kano residents were going about their daily activities. Security agents were present at the Emir’s Palace and the guest house where Bayero is staying, but their presence did not seem to disturb the residents.
Alhaji Kabiru Abubakar of Dakata Quarters mentioned that most Kano residents were more concerned about their livelihoods than the identity of the Emir. He expressed confidence in the political and religious leaders to resolve the matter soon.
Hajiya Aishatu Danlami of Brigade Quarters praised the state government for banning protests, which she said prevented miscreants from exploiting the situation to cause chaos. She commended the residents for resisting provocations from individuals seeking to create confusion.
“Allah has spoken, and Sunusi is now in the palace, guiding the Emirate’s affairs. May Allah continue to guide him towards the progress we desire,” she told NAN.
Alhaji Abdullahi Yakubu stated that Sunusi’s return reflected the will of the people. Alhaji Musa Isa from Dala in Dala Local Government Area urged Aminu Ado Bayero to accept the situation as God’s will, emphasizing that there can only be one Emir at a time.
NAN reports that the Kofar Kudu palace has been bustling with activity, with people from various parts of the city coming to witness royal displays and performances. These include traditional gun salutes for the Emir and palace aides riding well-decorated horses.
Hawkers have set up in front of the palace, selling food, drinks, textiles, shoes, and prayer mats, among other items. Praise singers and drummers also gather daily to entertain guests who come from across the country to pay homage to the reappointed Emir. (NAN)
