Troops belonging to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), stationed in Bagasola, Chad, successfully eliminated a terrorist and disrupted terrorist logistics movement in Borno State,leadership reports.
According to a statement by Lt.-Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Chief of Military Public Information Officer, the troops, as part of Operation Lake Sanity 2, conducted an ambush on Litri Island on May 13, 2024. This island lies on the border between Chad and Nigeria in the Central Lake Chad region. During the ambush, one terrorist was neutralized, and various items, including an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, an unexploded ordnance device, a mobile phone, and personal belongings, were recovered.
Additionally, on May 11, 2024, troops from the 19 Brigade Sector 3 MNJTF disrupted terrorist logistics in the Burwarti area of Kukawa local government in Borno State. The troops confiscated two motorcycles, a Baofeng radio, four bags of millet, and miscellaneous items.

Earlier, on May 12, 2024, during a clearance operation from Burwarti to Daban Masara, troops intercepted a civilian vehicle driven by Mr. Baba Ado. The vehicle, which was carrying passengers and empty baskets towards Daban Masara, was found 6km east of Burwarti. Mr. Baba Ado, who was on the 19 Brigade’s watch list, was detained for further investigation following a thorough search and interrogation.
Furthermore, on May 13, 2024, the Nigerien Gendarmerie, operating in Sector 4 MNJTF in Diffa, Niger Republic, seized petroleum products concealed within sacks of maize cereals. This operation, conducted approximately 5km from the main road on the outskirts of Diffa town, prevented an attempt to smuggle these products past security checkpoints. The seized products were intended for terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Basin region.
These combined efforts have significantly undermined the logistical and operational capabilities of terrorist groups in the Lake Chad Basin region.
