Gombe United has incurred a deduction of three points and three goals from its overall season tally by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) due to its strict stance against assaults on match officials,leadership reports.
In a swift decision, the league body issued a summary jurisdiction notice to Gombe United, citing the assault on match officials during their MD26 encounter against Akwa Utd. The incident involved Bright Nwosu, the Center Referee, Abdullahi Indabawa, AR1, Friday Abu Emeje, AR2, and Musa Hussainy Talle, the 4th Official, who were subjected to aggression by the club’s supporters.
Gombe United faced charges for breaching Rules B13.52, B13.18, and C1.1 of the NPFL Frameworks and Rules. These infractions stemmed from their failure to ensure adequate security, resulting in unauthorized access to restricted areas, throwing objects at match officials and the visiting team, and the assault on officials post-game.

Apart from the points deduction, the NPFL imposed a fine of N3 million on the club. This penalty comprised N1 million for inadequate security measures, another N1 million for the incident of objects thrown onto the field, and compensatory payments totaling N250,000 each to the four match officials.
Furthermore, Gombe United’s Pantami Stadium will be closed to its fans for the next three home games as per the NPFL directive.
The club has 48 hours from receiving the sanctions to either accept them in writing or opt for a disciplinary panel hearing in accordance with Rule C26.
