The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that, on December 23, the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe successfully obliterated six illegal oil refining sites located in Opu Arugbana, Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State,Daily Trust reports.

This information was conveyed in a statement issued by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information of NAF, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Gabkwet explained that the air strikes were part of the ongoing efforts to eliminate the activities of oil thieves and oil pipeline vandals in the Niger Delta region. The illicit sites were observed clustered within an approximately 80-meter radius at a location about 6 nautical miles south of Opu Arugbana. Once the sites were confirmed to be active, authorization was granted to demolish the six locations, serving as a deterrent to criminals engaging in illegal activities.

Despite the festive season, the NAF continues its air operations against criminals in the Niger Delta and other regions of the country. Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), commended the efforts of the Air Component Commanders across all theaters of operation. Abubakar, who spent Christmas day with troops in the Northeast and is currently in Katsina to celebrate with troops, urged them not to relent until criminal activities are significantly reduced.
