On Monday, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) staged a protest in response to the “accidental” bombing by the Nigerian Army in Tudun Biri village, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The incident, which resulted in the tragic loss of over 85 lives and numerous injuries, has sparked widespread condemnation,Daily Trust reports.
The protest, originating from the traffic near the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) in Maitama, Abuja, concluded at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), where the group submitted a petition to Executive Secretary Anthony Ojukwu. Dated December 11, 2023, and signed by Sheikh Sidi Munir Mainasara Sokoto, a member of the movement, the letter urged Ojukwu to exert pressure on the federal government for an immediate investigation and prosecution of the responsible officers.
The IMN rejected the Nigerian Army’s assertion that the incident was a mistake, deeming it unacceptable and emphasizing that similar incidents had occurred in the past. The group called for widespread condemnation of these atrocities, demanding justice for the people of Tudun Biri.

In their petition, the IMN insisted on the identification, investigation, and prosecution of those responsible for the massacre. They called for a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, seeking to determine the casualties, injuries, and losses suffered by Tudun Biri residents. Additionally, the IMN demanded compensation from the Nigerian Army, Kaduna State Government, and the Federal Government of Nigeria for the families affected by the Tudun Biri massacre.
Simultaneously, members of the northern caucus of the House of Representatives pledged to ensure appropriate compensation for victims and survivors once the investigation report is released. They committed to supporting the federal government’s efforts in rebuilding Tudun Biri, allocating approximately N350 million for facilities such as classrooms, a clinic, a police post, a solar borehole, and solar electrification.
During a condolence visit to Kaduna, Hon. Al-Hassan Ado Doguwa, the leader of the caucus, disclosed the additional contribution of N45 million made earlier by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Kaduna State Caucus. Furthermore, the three southern caucuses of the House of Representatives expressed their support with a sum of N30 million.
Amidst these developments, the Nigerian Farmers Supreme Council emphasized that the Tudun Biri incident must not be overlooked. The national president, Engineer Aliyu Mohammed Waziri, urged thorough investigation and compensation for survivors, noting that the council had lost some of its members in the bombing.
