President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stepped in on Friday night to address the political turmoil in Ondo State, successfully persuading the conflicting factions to set aside their differences and come together,Daily Trust reports.
According to reports from Daily Trust, the deputy governor of the state, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, agreed to reconcile with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Prior to this intervention, political figures from both sides had attempted to undermine Governor Akeredolu, who had reportedly been absent from his duties for an extended period, and there were also efforts to impeach Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa.
The lengthy meeting, lasting over six hours at the State House on Friday night, was initiated by President Tinubu and involved a delegation from the state, led by Ondo All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Ade Adetimehin. Governor Akeredolu, who was in Ibadan after returning from medical treatment abroad, was not physically present at the meeting.

In the resolution proposed by President Tinubu, Mr. Aiyedatiwa committed to collaborating with members of the cabinet and other senior government officials. Additionally, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Oladiji Olamide, agreed to suspend ongoing impeachment proceedings.
Expressing his commitment to unity and cooperation, Aiyedatiwa stated, “I embrace everyone, put behind all that has happened before now, and let God, just as the President has advised us. It is one big family, and our father has intervened to bring all the children together. I will carry every one of you along in every decision that needs to be taken.”
Speaker Olamide Oladiji, while outlining the resolutions, emphasized the commitment to peace, maintaining the current cabinet, and upholding the status quo in party and assembly leadership.
The meeting appeared to be a response to an urgent appeal made to President Tinubu by leaders and elders of the state to intervene in the ongoing crisis.
