A 25-year-old cattle rearer, Mohammed Abubakar, has been arraigned at a Magistrate Court in Ilọrin, the Kwara State capital for allegedly inflicting bodily injury on a girl, Mohammed Aisha, over sex, the PUNCH Metro reports.

He was brought to court on two counts of causing grievous hurt and attempting to commit culpable homicide.

The offences contravened sections 246 and 299 of the penal code law of Kwara state.

According to the police’s first information report, the case was reported at Lafiagi Police Station by the Medical Director, General Hospital, Lafiagi, Dr. S.K Suleiman.

The charge sheet quoted Dr Suleiman that “The victim was brought for treatment where she narrated that she went to bush in searching for Shea butter with her two sisters Hassana and Adishetu.

“But they were attacked by the suspect, a Fulani, while the victim sustained deep injury cut on her head,” the sheet added.

The police told the court that “investigation revealed that the suspect demanded to have sex with the victim and her two younger sisters but they refused and ran for safety.

“But he (suspect) chased them and matcheted the suspect severely on her head in the process.”

The Police Prosecutor, Ayeni Gbenga, said the investigation on the case was yet to be completed and therefore urged the court not to grant the accused person bail.

In her ruling, Magistrate Gbadeyan Kamson ordered the remand of the suspect and adjourned to July 10, 2023.
