FCT Minister Wike Denies Allocating Land to His Children

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has once again denied allegations that he allocated land to any of his children,Daily Trust reports.

The claims allege that Wike allocated 2,082 hectares to one son through JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited and 1,740 hectares to another son, Jordan—totaling 3,822 hectares said to be valued at $6.45 billion.

Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike dismissed the accusations, particularly the claim that he allocated land in Maitama and Asokoro to his sons. He, however, maintained that his children, as Nigerian citizens, have the right to apply for land if due process is followed.

“Assuming—though not admitting—that my children applied for land, are they not Nigerian citizens? Are they Ghanaians? Even if they applied, are they disqualified simply because I’m the minister?” he said.

Wike further alleged that the claims were part of a smear campaign initiated by an individual from Adamawa State aimed at discrediting his leadership.

“First, try and find 2,000 hectares of land in Maitama and Asokoro—where would you get that? I know where these stories are coming from: Adamawa State. I am fully aware,” he stated.

Challenging the validity of the accusations, Wike added: “The whole thing is rubbish. Where in Maitama or Asokoro can you find 2,000 hectares? Let them bring the documents, show the empirical evidence.”
