A group, the Ogoni Sim Vanguard, has declared support for the Rivers State Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Sim Fubara, for the 2023 election, Punch reports.
Also, the group promised determination and commitment to work for the party to achieve a landslide victory in the state as an appreciation for the dividends of democracy the Ogoni people have enjoyed under Governor Nyesom Wike.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees, OSV, Marvin Yobana, stated this at the grand inauguration of the group in Bori, Khana Local Government Area and the traditional headquarters of Ogoni land.
Yobana said the 2023 governorship election would be used to demonstrate the uniqueness of the Ogoni ethnic nationality, especially as politics was concerned.
He said the Ogoni ethnic nationality would be considered ungrateful if they failed to support Governor Nyesom Wike’s vision as expressed in the choice of the party’s standard bearer, Fubara.
He said, “Ogoni is proud of Governor Wike as we have never witnessed such level of unprecedented developmental projects since the Second Republic. Governor Wike has, indeed, brought the dividends of democracy to Ogoni land.
“We shall be considered ungrateful if we fail to support Governor Wike’s visions as expressed in the choice of Sir Sim Fubara.
“Apart from the fact that we can attest that His Excellency loves Ogoni, the Ogoni will remain indebted to Governor Wike for the great wonders he had performed in our land.
“For example, the Saakpenwa-Kono dual carriageway completed with street lights, the Kpopie-Bodo road, the renovation of Birabi Memorial Grammar School, Bori, Bodo General Hospital and many other projects.”
Responding, the PDP governorship candidate, Mr, Fubara, urged the Ogoni people, Rivers people and various support groups to intensify efforts to rally support for the PDP to ensure that the party wins all elective positions in the state come 2023.
