Residents of Dansai community in Ranga ward of Warji Local government Area of Bauchi have appealed to local authorities to intervene and find solution to the recurrent flooding the area.

Dansai inhabitants who are mostly farmers said that they badly affected by flood during every rainy seasons due to lack of road and good constructed water passage especially from the month of July to September.

In an interview with Xchange Hama Media, Mrs. Hafsat Ali, a resident of Dansai, expressed her frustration over the community’s continuous suffering, now in its fourth consecutive year. “The floods invade our homes, damaging rooms, beds, and kitchen utensils. We have lost so much over the years, yet we have received no relief materials or support from government officials,” she lamented.

Another affected resident, Ladiyo Musa, shared her decade-long struggle with the flooding, explaining that she has lost significant personal property, including ten bags of rice and household items. The flooding’s devastation has left many residents struggling to recover each year.

A community member Mr. Zakari Munkaila Madaki narrated how the lack of a well-constructed water passage from Katanga Town to Dansai exacerbates the flood problem. “This ongoing situation has damaged our homes and crops, threatening our livelihood,” he said.

Speaking on the situation of the community, the village head of Ranga, Alh. Muhammad Haruna Ranga explained how the flooding has restricted business and transportation within the community.

“For years, this flooding has disrupted our trade and limited our access to neighboring markets. People are forced to sell goods locally at low prices, unable to reach broader markets,” he explained.

While some local politicians provided material support in the past, he noted that the problem is beyond their current resources, calling for more sustainable government intervention.

In response to the community’s concerns, Deputy Chairman of Warji LGA, Hon. Aliyu Idris Tiyin, acknowledged the gravity of the flooding issue and stated that local authorities have started taking steps to address it. He mentioned that the Chairman, Hon. Aminu Barmini, had set up a committee to assess the situation and provide support to affected residents.

Hon. Tiyin further added that a new drainage project initiated by Hon. Adamu Hashimu Ranga, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ningi and Warji constituency will be constructed in the area to contain the flood.

According to him, the project aims to construct a water passage that will begin from Katanga, pass through Dansai, and lead to the Zurma River, hoping it will significantly reduce the flooding risk along all the affected communities.

The Dansai community remains hopeful that these efforts will provide lasting nrelief from the floods that have disrupted their lives for years.
