Two friends have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State for allegedly stealing building materials worth N1.3m in the state.
The police, on Tuesday, charged Gabriel Adejo, 32 and Timothy Simon, 33, with conspiracy and theft.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, The prosecution counsel, Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the crime around 10am on June 24, on the building site of one Moses Habu, in the Karji area of the state.
Leo said the defendants and two other accomplices at large stole the building materials and were arrested while trying to sell the stolen items.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 302 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendants pleaded not guilty.The defence counsel, James Godwin, asked for the defendants’ bail in the most liberal terms.
The presiding magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
Emmanuel said the sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, must show and present evidence of two years of tax payment paid to the state government, NAN reports.
He added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendants and adjourned the case until July 18, for a hearing.
