Wonder Woman Nigeria (WWN) has revealed that over 400 cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) were reported to the organization in the past six years, highlighting an increase in awareness and reporting of such incidents across the country,Daily Trust reports.
Speaking during a sensitization program in Kaduna, WWN Vice President Anne Dirkling called on community leaders and key stakeholders to leverage their influence in raising awareness about GBV. She emphasized the importance of collective action in combating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), stating that it is a shared responsibility.
Dirkling noted, “Over the last six years, 400 cases of GBV were reported to us. In Kaduna, there has been a roughly 10% increase in reports, which is encouraging as it indicates that advocacy efforts and awareness platforms are making an impact. The Kaduna State government is also playing a significant role in addressing GBV.”

She stressed the need for continued awareness campaigns to encourage more reporting and effectively address the menace in society.
In her remarks, Hajiya Rabi Salisu Ibrahim, the Commissioner for Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development, represented by her Special Adviser, Hajia Maryam Muazu, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving success against GBV. She identified prevention as a major challenge but noted that Kaduna State has established four referral centers to support survivors and report cases.
The event, themed “Voices Against Gender-Based Violence: Advocacy, Art, and Action,” was part of activities marking the 16 Days of Activism Against GBV.
