Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, CP Garba outlined proactive measures taken by the police to protect residents and prevent any incidents.
“Recently, we received a security alert about an imminent terrorist attack in Kano, particularly during the Tijjaniyya Maulud celebration. We raised the alarm, informed the public, and activated measures to address the situation,” Garba said.

“A suspect, who had been staying at a church, was arrested after we apprehended his host, who had access to his house. We also made significant recoveries, including explosives,” he added.
Garba emphasized the critical role of intelligence in averting threats and commended the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in ensuring security.
“Upon receiving the alert during the Tijjaniyya programme, we deployed all available personnel and worked closely with stakeholders. At one venue, we partnered with our Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit to secure the area,” he explained.
The CP acknowledged the challenges of maintaining order in a politically charged environment but reassured residents of the police’s dedication to their safety.
“In Kano, everything is politicized – even the food we eat. Despite this, I want to assure everyone that my team and I are fully committed to securing this state. I come from Tijjaniyya roots, and my forefathers have always stood for peace and security,” Garba stated.
He also recounted efforts to track a high-profile suspect linked to a past attack that resulted in multiple casualties.
“We tracked him to the venue, but he moved before we could apprehend him. However, we arrested a soft target who provided us with critical information. This demonstrates our resolve to ensure no criminal outsmarts the system,” he said.
The CP urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and security in Kano.
“Let me thank everyone who has supported our efforts. Together, we can ensure Kano remains safe for all,” he concluded.
