The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced daily power outages from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., beginning Monday, January 6, and continuing until January 20, 2025. The outages will affect areas including Kubwa, Karu, Nyanya, and others, due to the relocation of electricity towers necessitated by a road dualisation project, leadership reports.
This announcement confirms an earlier notification by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) regarding the planned relocation of power supply infrastructure. TCN’s General Manager, Ndidi Mbah, expressed regret for the inconvenience but underscored the importance of the work to enhance power supply reliability.
According to TCN, eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line (Outer Southern Expressway route) need to be relocated to accommodate the road project. The relocation will involve dismantling and reconstructing the towers and restringing power cables, necessitating the daily power outages.

In a statement, TCN assured residents that power supply would be restored as soon as the relocation and cable stringing are completed. “While the relocation of transmission towers is essential for the road completion project, we apologise for the inconvenience and are committed to restoring power as quickly as possible,” the company stated.
AEDC had earlier, on Friday, notified residents of the planned outages due to the road dualisation project along the Apo axis, undertaken by the Federal Capital Development Agency (FCDA).
Areas to be impacted, according to AEDC, include Lugbe and environs, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, Christ Embassy Church, and the American International School. Other affected areas are Spring Court, American Embassy Quarters, EFCC Headquarters, Coca Cola, Railway, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), parts of Apo, parts of Gudu, Gbazango, parts of Kubwa, Bwari, Jahi, Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi, and surrounding areas.
