A dynamite explosion in Sabon-Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, has claimed one life and left six others injured.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Sunday, January 26, 2025. According to Abiodun, the explosion, which occurred around 7:30 a.m., was caused by dynamites stored in the area by a suspect for mining purposes.
The blast destroyed approximately 12 houses and caused significant damage. Fatima Sadauki, the victim, was killed in the explosion, while the injured were taken to the General Hospital in Kainji for treatment.

Niger State Commissioner of Police, Shawulu Danmamman, has ordered a thorough investigation and dispatched the EOD-CBRN unit to the site for an assessment. Meanwhile, the suspect responsible for storing the explosives in the residential area remains at large.
Abiodun assured residents that normalcy has been restored in the area, with ongoing monitoring to prevent further incidents. (NAN)
