Traders at the Mile 3 Market Diobu, Port Harcourt have apprehended a man whose identity is yet-to-be ascertained reported to be in possession of N1.3 million naira new notes in the market, Guardian reports.

A trader, who identified herself as Rachael Jabin, told newsmen that the man suspected to be a member of fake new naira note syndicate with another member of the gang had visited the market making purchases at different shops.

Miss Jabin said some traders the man bought goods from later observed that the new naira note given to them were counterfeit and started trailing the men who were said to have come from a neighbouring state.

She said one of the men was apprehended by the traders and other customers in the market.The market executives rescued the man from the mob who wanted to lynch him.

The source stated that the suspect was handed over to the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters, Mile 3, but it was not clear if counterfeit money were given to the police by the market executives.

Mr Gift Nkesi, Chairman of the Mile 3 Ultra modern market, who spoke through head of disciplinary committee of the market, Mr. Ibe Athinatus said the executive rescued a man from mob, who was accused of using fake new naira notes to purchase goods in the market on Monday.

Mr. Athinatus also denied that the executives collected N1.3 million fake new naira notes from the suspect.
