The Kwara State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of Qoyum Ishola, a student of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin,leadership reports.
Ishola was reportedly killed on September 4, 2024, in the Sango area of Ilorin, the state capital. His fellow students have raised concerns, alleging that a police officer was responsible for his death.
In response, the Kwara State Police Command issued a statement on Sunday, signed by its spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, assuring the victim’s family of their commitment to seeking justice. “We stand with the family in this difficult time and are fully committed to ensuring justice for the deceased,” the statement read.
The police further confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway, with key witnesses identified. “The Kwara State Police Command is determined to uncover the facts and bring those responsible to justice in accordance with the law. We understand the importance of transparency and are conducting the investigation with integrity to provide answers to the family and community,” the statement added.

The Command also called for calm, urging the public and the student community to allow the legal process to take its course. “While emotions may be high, we encourage everyone to refrain from actions that could interfere with the investigation or disturb public order. We are committed to keeping the public informed as the investigation progresses, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation during this sensitive time.”
Meanwhile, the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Abdul Muhammed, expressed sorrow over the death of Ishola, a National Diploma (ND 2) student in Electrical Electronic Engineering. In a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Halimat Garba, the Rector noted that “the circumstances surrounding the young and promising student’s death remain unclear, with various unverified accounts circulating.”
He emphasized that the institution’s management is committed to ensuring justice based on the findings of the investigation. Muhammed also praised the students for maintaining calm and avoiding any unlawful actions, adding that the Polytechnic community remains steadfast in its demand for accountability and justice for Qoyum Ishola.
