In response to the recent jailbreak in Suleja, Niger State, the Kwara State Police Command has heightened its state of alertness. Through a statement issued by its spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, and disclosed to the press in Ilorin yesterday, the command assures residents of its dedication to vigilance and protection,leadership reports.

The statement recounts the incident on April 24, 2024, when a severe rainstorm caused extensive damage to the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, enabling the escape of 118 inmates. This breach, attributed to the downpour by the Nigeria Correctional Service’s NPRO, ACC Abubakar Umar, led to collaborative efforts to recapture the fleeing inmates. While 13 have been successfully recovered, 105 remain at large, prompting heightened security measures.

Recognizing the security implications of this incident as a neighboring state, Commissioner of Police Victor Olaiya emphasizes the Kwara State Police Command’s proactive stance. He assures the public of the command’s vigilance and collaboration with relevant agencies to safeguard the state’s safety and security.

To prevent any potential threat posed by escaped inmates, the command has bolstered patrols along border areas and increased surveillance in vulnerable locations.
