The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended Abdullahi Panda, the Councillor representing Kumo East in Akko local government area, along with two others, for allegedly stealing and selling a transformer belonging to the Majidadi community,leadership reports.

Presenting the suspects to the media on Monday, Gombe State Police Commissioner Hayatu Usman revealed that their arrest followed a tip-off.

Usman stated that the transformer was sold to Bello Ardo Kumo for 1.5 million naira. He added that the police have recovered the transformer and are continuing their investigation, after which the suspects will be charged in court.

One of the suspects, village head Muhammad Majidadi, explained that the transformer had been unused for ten years, with some parts already vandalized and stolen.

Majidadi said the community decided to sell the transformer to fund the construction of an Islamic school and a clinic in the village.

He claimed to have informed the Councillor about the decision, but Panda denied any involvement in the sale and requested that the matter be taken to court.
