Following the tragic attacks on the Chikam community, located adjacent to Plateau State University (PLASU) in Bokkos, resulting in the loss of life of a 200-Level Computer Science student named Dading James Jordan, the institution has declared a two-day period of mourning,leadership reports.
Additionally, the University authorities have decided to suspend the ongoing semester examinations. This decision was communicated in a press statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Yakubu Ayuba, and shared with LEADERSHIP in Jos on Friday.
The statement expressed condolences to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Best, the entire Management and Staff of PLASU, the family of the deceased, and the student body of the institution for the irreparable loss suffered.

Ayuba lamented the occurrence of the attacks despite the collective efforts of the Plateau State Government, security agencies, university management, and other stakeholders to enhance the security situation.
He described the attack as cowardly and unfortunate, leading to the declaration of a two-day mourning period and the suspension of ongoing examinations.
“In light of this sorrowful development, Management has declared a two-day mourning period on Friday and Saturday,” stated Yakubu.
Furthermore, he urged students to remain calm and law-abiding while calling on security agencies to intensify security around the university premises to ensure the safety of staff and students. The institution is also exploring additional measures to enhance its security.
Meanwhile, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has appealed for calm as security agencies work to restore normalcy. In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor condemned the barbaric attack and reassured citizens, especially students, of the state government’s commitment to protecting their lives and properties.
He encouraged everyone to stay composed in the face of this tragedy, assuring that the government is determined to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts.
