Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened a crucial meeting last night to address internal conflicts that have recently troubled the party,Daily Trust reports.

A key topic of discussion was the controversy surrounding the acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, whose leadership has caused divisions within the party. The governors also reviewed preparations for the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, set for tomorrow, which is expected to determine Damagum’s future and address other critical issues.

Governors in attendance included Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), and Ademola Adeleke (Osun). Other prominent figures at the meeting included Ambassador Damagum, former Senate President and PDP Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Treasurer Ahmed Yayari Muhammed, and party spokesman Debo Ologunagba, among others.

At the time of this report, the discussions were still ongoing. Before the closed-door session, Governor Bala Mohammed clarified that this was not a PDP Governors Forum meeting but a gathering of PDP stakeholders working to resolve internal party issues. He promised that the outcomes of the meeting would be made public once discussions concluded.

PDP Governors Deny Legal Suit in Zamfara

In a related development, the PDP Governors Forum dismissed reports that Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed or his supporters had filed a legal suit at the Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara, to force the convening of the NEC meeting.

Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, Director General of the PDP Governors Forum, issued a statement refuting the claims, stressing that Governor Bala had not initiated any legal action, either directly or through proxies, regarding the NEC meeting. He urged the public to disregard the false reports.
