As a result, businesses and residents in the vicinity, including Bodija, Ikolaba, and Awolowo Avenue, opted to remain indoors and secure their shops.

Initially, security personnel at the secretariat struggled to disperse the agitators until the police arrived and successfully drove them away, with support from other law enforcement agencies, including the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, and members of the state security network, Amotekun.

The commotion led to heightened anxiety among motorists and pedestrians, resulting in heavy traffic along routes from Customs Junction to the Secretariat-Queen Elizabeth Road.

Despite efforts by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (retd.), to pacify the situation, the agitators persisted in their attempt to raise their flag within the Secretariat premises.

As of now, there has been no official statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, regarding the incident.

Ibadan has traditionally been known as a peaceful area, with the recent disruption occurring in January due to an explosion in Bodija caused by illegal mining activities involving stored explosives, resulting in casualties and significant property damage.
