Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, rebuked the notion that President Bola Tinubu is a failure or weak leader, asserting that such views are misguided and blind to the positive transformation unfolding in Nigeria,Daily Trust reports.
Matawalle made these remarks in response to the Northern Elders Forum’s suggestion that the North might not support Tinubu in the 2027 elections. He dismissed the forum’s authority, labeling it a “political burden” that doesn’t represent the region’s consensus.
He criticized the forum for disregarding the achievements of Tinubu’s administration and its failure to engage with the President on issues concerning the North. Matawalle emphasized that Tinubu’s presidency is not confined to any ethnic group but is meant to benefit all Nigerians.

The Minister condemned the forum’s alleged regret for supporting Tinubu in the 2023 elections, calling it unfortunate and out of touch with reality. He asserted that Tinubu’s leadership has brought significant development to the North and the nation as a whole.
Matawalle concluded by reaffirming the North’s pride in supporting Tinubu and its commitment to his presidency, highlighting the positive changes his administration has brought to the region.
