The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed 4,002 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday in Ondo State,Daily Trust reports.
Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State, announced this on Friday in Akure, the state capital. She added that an additional 812 BVAS machines had been set aside as reserves in case of technical issues with the deployed devices.
“We are ready,” Babalola stated. “We have conducted extensive voter awareness campaigns using various channels. Additionally, we have recruited and trained our ad-hoc staff, Supervisory Presiding Officers (SPOs), Presiding Officers, and Assistant Presiding Officers.”
She revealed that over 30,000 security personnel had been deployed for the election, all of whom had been briefed on their responsibilities to ensure a smooth process.
“The security agencies have assured us of their professionalism and commitment. We also familiarized them with our processes to eliminate misunderstandings. Their training has been cascaded down to their respective commands,” she said.
Babalola further assured that the Registration Area Centres (RACs) would be activated earlier than usual to guarantee the timely deployment of voting materials to polling units.
“Most of the vehicles are already en route to the RACs, which we are activating early to ensure they are settled and ready for the election tomorrow. Our teams are currently on the field, and we are awaiting confirmation of their arrival at their destinations,” she concluded.
